The Myanmar Partnership Multi-Donor Trust Fund was formed in 2014 to support the Government of Myanmar with its long-term development objectives. The fund allows collaboration and joint financing of activities in a wide range of areas, including education, private sector development and finance.

Consistent with the Myanmar Development Assistance Policy, the Myanmar Partnership MDTF also facilitates collaboration, alignment and leveraging of resources. It aims to enhance efficiency and reduce transaction costs, by allowing collaboration in support of commonly agreed outcomes and results aligned with national priorities, without establishing separate projects and funding streams.

The overall objectives of the Myanmar Partnership MDTF are: (1) Support Myanmar’s transition and the implementation of market-oriented policies, social reforms, and national development strategies; (2) Enhance cooperation between the World Bank Group and donors.

The Myanmar Partnership MDTF has activities under three main windows to achieve these objectives:

Social Development and Inclusion, which works to increase social capital and inclusion through participatory local development and service provision;

Institutional Strengthening, which seeks to strengthen institutions’ ability to deliver improved management of public revenue, expenditure and services, and increase access to finance, and;

Private Sector Development, which promotes business environment reforms to increase investments and create jobs in an inclusive and sustainable manner.

The Myanmar Partnership MDTF does not identify Gender as a separate strategic area, but seeks to integrate an awareness of Gender issues throughout its programs – highlighting Gender as a cross-cutting issue and seeking to address Gender inequality using all current programs.
