Damascus, SANA-Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign and Expatriates Minister Walid al-Moallem said on Tuesday that members of the committee on discussing the constitution are decision owners, adding that the role of the UN is a facilitator to the work of different sides and it doesn’t interfere in the core of the discussion.
“The constitutional committee is one outcome of the Syrian national dialogue conference in Sochi and there were foreign pressures to hinder its formation,” al-Moallem said in an interview to the Syrian TV.
Al-Moallem affirmed that the committee will be led and owned by Syria and there will be no external intervention in it, saying “we won’t accept any pressure or interference in its work.”
He went on to say that countries hostile to Syria don’t want the committee to progress in its work because they don’t want any political solution to the crisis.
Al-Moallem stressed “our goal is to liberate every span of Syria from terrorism, an issue which is guaranteed by international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
He said that going on in combating terrorism won’t oppose going ahead in the political process, adding that any talk about ready constitutions is a rejected issue and the constitutional committee is “the master of itself.”
“When we feel there are external fingers in the work of the committee, we will announce that and stop talking to it,” al-Moallem said, adding that the Committee is immune with principles of procedures that take into consideration the Syrian national firms, sacrifices and the blood of martyrs.
He underlined that there will be constitutional committee’s serious outcomes if the other parties are serious and if they stop intervention in the Syrian domestic affairs.
