Quito –

The Vice President of the Republic, Otto Sonnenholzner, and the
Minister of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources, Carlos Pérez García,
will participate in the launch of the updated Mining Public Policy, which will
take place this Tuesday at the Shuar Cultural Interpretation Center, located at
Timbara, from Zamora.

This document will be presented by the Ministry of Energy and
Non-Renewable Natural Resources. It is structured in six axes and is the result
of joint work with State institutions (since April 2018) to promote responsible,
legal and controlled mining in the country, which will guarantee the 2019-2030
planning.

The fact occurs in the midst of alerts raised by the responsible
mining sector (large mining) on the need for the Constitutional Court to
clarify whether small communities can request popular consultations on the
management of non-renewable natural resources. They consider that this is an
exclusive competence of the State.

Carlos Pérez García: There will be mining in the country, yes or
yes

Tomorrow, the Court must attend a hearing request for
consultation that would seek to avoid exploitation in Cascabel. This despite
the fact that the concession has already been delivered.

Yesterday Santiago Yépez, president of the Chamber of Mining,
and René Ayala Lomas, president of the Association of Mining Engineers (AIME),
informed that they will hold a sit-in outside the Court, to support the amicus
curiae that have been presented by part of different mining actors against the
request for consultation in the provinces of Carchi and Imbabura.

Last Friday, the Chambers of Production asked the Court to have legal security. Pablo Zambrano explained that there are currently at least five world class projects that must be managed in a sustainable manner. They explained that the mining sector can generate some 110,000 sources of employment and at least $ 10 billion in investments. (I)
