Heavy fighting woke Tripoli up on Saturday as fighters for the Libyan Army Forces under the Government of National Accord’s command and fighters from Khalifa Haftar’s forces battled in different frontlines in southern Tripoli.
According to field hospital workers on the frontline, over 20 people have been killed from both sides in addition to tens of injuries due to the fierce fighting that erupted in Al-Ahyaa Al-Bareya, Airport Road, Yarmouk and Naqliya camps and around Wadi Rabea and Ain Zara districts in southern Tripoli.
The fierce fighting started Saturday dawn as Haftar’s forces launched attacks on Libyan Army forces under GNA’s command on Yarmouk camp, Naqliya camp and Al-Ahyaa Al-Bareya frontlines.
Ater the fighting raged on for hours, GNA’s forces repelled Haftar’s forces attacks on all three frontlines and managed to seize both military vehicles and weapons and fighters, according to sources from the frontline.
The sources confirmed that the fighting also left over five fighters from GNA’s forces dead and over 15 injured.
Photos and videos posted online showed Libyan Army forces under GNA’s command seizing a Russian armored vehicle that has been newly brought to the frontline by Haftar’s forces.
Haftar has been using UAE-Jordan-Russian-provided armored vehicles in the fighting on the outskirts of Tripoli.
Haftar launched his attack on Tripoli on April 04, since then, over 500 have been killed, over 2300 injured, over 75.000 displaced and many houses and properties destroyed.
