Pigs will continue to be the major and growing commodity because of its ability to reproduce.
This was highlighted in the Fiji Meat Industry Board’s 2014 Annual Report.
According to the report, a total of 15 208 pigs were slaughtered.
This is 64,87 per cent of the total slaughter numbers.
However, the pork weight is only 31,78% of the total carcass weight.
In 2014, there were 7 589 cattle slaughtered which is 426 more than the amount slaughtered in 2013.
The Board, in its report, says it is working on encouraging beef farming as a business by providing incentives.
