Parts of Wellington’s water supply have been declared unsafe for drinking, after likely contamination.

Wellington Water has put out a warning against drinking water in Pukerua Beach Rd, Ocean Parade Rd, and Brendan Beach, Pukerua Bay.

The utilities company said earthworks construction had potentially caused damage that contaminated drinking water with wastewater.

It said about 50 properties are affected within the advised area.

While it is specifically warning against drinking the water, Wellington Water said water shouldn’t be used for any purposes until the advisory is lifted.

A temporary water supply is being arranged, as pipes are being shut off for at least 24 hours while repairs are carried out.

Customers in the area who feel or become unwell are being warned to go straight to their doctor, or contact Healthline on 0800 611 116.
