Iraqi army forces in Tal Afar, wsst of Nineveh.

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State senior members were arrested in an operation launched in south of Mosul, an intelligence source from Nineveh Police said on Tuesday.

“During a campaign launched by Nineveh Police intelligence in al-Eraij village in Qayyarah town, troops arrested Tareq abu Islam, chief of Islamic State’s Hisbah (vigilantism) in Nineveh, who is accused of ordering murder of hundreds of civilians, in accordance with the militant group’s edicts, while occupying the post in the Old City,” Cap. Alaa al-Bayati told BasNews.

“Security troops managed also to arrest Ayman Waad al-Jarjari, who was in charge of the group’s so-called Bayt-ul Mal,” Bayati added.

“Based on accurate intelligence information, troops arrested the wanted persons while hiding in one of the old houses along with a family. They were taken to Nineveh Police department for investigations,” he added.

Earlier today, the Defense Ministry said Iraqi army forces are launching a clearing operation against IS militants based on intelligence information with support from the United States-led international coalition in “Jozor al-Makhlat” (islands) in Nineveh.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi declared in July victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25,000 Islamic State militants were killed throughout the campaign. Abadi announced in December full liberation of Iraqi lands, declaring end of war against IS members.
